When Muslims speak about their belief in Jesus, they often portray a version of Jesus that is far removed from the historical Jesus of the Bible. Instead of relying on first-century sources or respected historians, they turn to Muhammad, who claimed without evidence that many important figures before him were Muslims.
Muslims sometimes present absurd conspiracy theories to explain why historical sources contradict their view of Jesus. Paul did it … in spite of the historical evidence tracing core Christian doctrine to the first century.
I got the following idea from Dr. David Wood in his recent video:
Let’s apply the same approach Muslims do to Jesus to Muhammad. Imagine Muhammad was actually a devout Christian who preached the Gospel to Arabs. Uthman corrupted Muhammad’s gospel message into Islam. We actually have better evidence of this than just the claim. We know that when Uthman was collecting Qurans in order to burn them to create a single reading that Ibn Masud kept his copy due to differences he knew and differences he swore were important.
This simple exercise reveals the double standard Muslims use when defending their faith. If the claim that Muhammad was a Christian is absurd, recognize the same problem in Islamic views about Jesus.
